eBook Industry News
For the first time in history, sales of adult fiction eBooks have outperformed hardcover sales. Even though the overall U.S. paperback market has drastically declined the previous year, the continuing growth of eBooks has doubled in 2011 generating more than $2 billion.
Elsewhere in the creative industry, big name internet executive, Barry Diller, and Emmy-winning producer, Scott Rudin, are considering investing in an ePublishing business. But don’t wait for them to read your manuscript when you can get your eBook for sale today.
Last but not least, the success of Fifty Shades of Grey (whether you love it or hate it) sets a fine example of how the independent community can achieve financial success in self-publishing.
New Publishing Platforms
The Canadian-based company Kobo has launched their much anticipated self-publishing platform: Kobo Writing Life. Kobo has a strong international presence and they accept EPUB as a source format. BB eBooks can help you turn your manuscript into an EPUB for Kobo or you can learn how to do it yourself with our new tutorial.
Are you interested in breaking into the Thai market? The eBook industry is continuing to grow in Thailand, especially with the launch of the One Tablet Per Child program; however, it remains stuck in PDF-only formats that are unsuitable for smaller devices. Hopefully, new eReading software will be able to support Thai script and display Thai fonts for eBooks.
Word of the Day
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the computer code that allows eReading devices to display reflowable content that can be adjusted to devices of any size. The language contains various markup to support audio, video, images, and hyperlinks. BB eBooks always converts manuscripts for our clients into HTML to allow for professional-quality eBooks.
