BB eBooks Newsletter – July 2, 2014

Dear Friend,

Despite Thailand’s political and economic malaise, BB eBooks had its best month yet in June. Thank you for all our clients who placed their trust in us to make this possible. We enjoy working with all of you.

Booktropolous: The New Facebook?

Booktropolous

One of our clients tipped us off to a secret social network that was exclusively for readers and authors. In other words, a place that was not filled with lame ads for buying a condo and duck-face selfies of your 12th-grade boyfriend’s wife. Get an account on Booktropolous today, the new social network for our community, and please don’t forget to friend us (we’re under Paul Salvette).

Content Marketing for Authors

Writing valuable and SEO-friendly content for public consumption has been a staple of small business promotion for many years. Rather than betting the ranch on some gimmicky ad campaign, building up a trove of valuable content helps small businesses reach new customers by way of the Google. Learn how to use content marketing to help your author brand.

Making a New eBookstore

Are you interested in making your eBooks available in new markets outside the usual eBook havens (i.e. U.S., Australia/New Zealand, UK, and Canada)? Southeast Asia, while incredibly diverse culturally and economically, has a huge number of people (800 million and growing!). Almost every one of the 10 Southeast Asian economies is expected to have strong economic growth for the foreseeable future. A quick trip on the Bangkok Skytrain confirms that all Southeast Asians own at least 3 smartphones and/or tablets each with Candy Crush installed. Why not consider selling eBooks here? While Amazon is not big in Southeast Asia, a competitor could target this market. Who knows what the future will bring?

BB Client Launches

BBClient

After an extended beta period, BB Client is now up and operational. This secure, cloud-based platform provides a way for our existing clients to retrieve all editions of their eBooks, request new projects, review receipts from past projects, and pay outstanding invoices through PayPal. We wanted to provide a secure and streamlined way for our clients to work with us, and thank you for all the outstanding feedback to bring this platform to life.

Permafree on Amazon

KDP Select is a very 2012 phenomenon that doesn’t have the sparkle it once did. Many successful authors are making one or more of the eBooks in their series permanently free or “permafree” on Amazon. BB eBooks provides some tips on how to do this and (your mileage may vary).

Other Items of Note

For fans of Erotica please don’t forget to pick up a copy of the What to Read After Fifty Shades of Grey box sets (Book 1 and Book 2). There are many great authors in here and the success of these eBooks shows that 2014 is the year of the box set. BB eBooks was proud of being hired to do the formatting for these.

Some Op-Ed piece in the New York Times suggests that writers can’t make any money the way that digital publishing is set up now. We found this very difficult to believe and not he experience of most writers we know. Forbes has a much better article that talks about the rise of indie movements (including indie authors!).

We’re not big on gadget blogging but, apparently, Amazon is finally releasing its smartphone. They haven’t released any tools to test eBooks on the new smartphone, but they most likely will very soon (like they did with the Kindle Fire). We’ll be sure your eBooks look great on the new smartphone device.

Yours sincerely,

The BB eBooks Team
